Edwin Leggett was born and raised in Waterbury, CT. He attended Sacred Heart High School and is a graduate of UConn. He earned an MA from Howard university in Washington, DC, then did additional graduate work at UConn.

Edwin was hired as a trainee at Xerox Corp and quickly moved into the management program. He then moved to Wang Labs as a product manager, specializing in voice technologies, working largely with telecommunications companies in the western region. He joined Meta Group, a technology analysis and consulting firm, as Executive Vice President, playing a key role in its growth to an IPO. He joined Platinum Technology as Executive Vice President of its consulting organization, leading to the purchase of Platinum by Computer Associates. He left the tech space after 9/11, and began work as a teacher at Southington High School.

Edwin moved to Southington in 1978. He has been active as a coach in Western Little League,
Southington Valley Youth Football, and the Southington Boys Traveling Basketball program. He developed the AP Politics & Government program at Southington High School and his students consistently score well above U.S. scores on the AP tests.

He has been part of a post-Columbine school safety workshop at Southington High School and has participated in the Southington High School basketball program for 5 years, with the last several years as coach of the freshman team.

Edwin has been married to his wife Deborah for 28 years. He has a son, Jamie and daughter-in-law Meghan, who live in Southington with their 4 children (3 at Derynoski school). His daughter Erin Legget Gardner lives in Medford, MA, with her husband Roy and new baby. His step-son Kevin, wife Amanda and their new baby boy live in San Diego where Kevin is deployed in the U.S. Navy and teaches sonar.

Edwin is a member of Southington YMCA, the First Congregational Church and Calendar House. He is also an avid cyclist.
