Town Council
My name is Kristen Marie Guida. I am running as a Democrat for The Southington Town Council. I am essentially a lifelong Southington resident, give or take a few years. I am a graduate of Southington High School.
I am an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. I hold a doctoral degree in nursing from Quinnipiac University. I currently work at Capital Community College as an Associate Professor of Nursing. I also work at Hartford Hospital as a surgical APRN on a very busy vascular surgery service. I also work per-diem at Hospital for Special Care.
I was previously involved with Southington’s Town wide Effort to Promote Success (STEPS) for over 9 years. I am a past president of the organization. STEPS is a youth substance abuse prevention, asset building organization that is invaluable to the town. Due to the bylaws, it was my time to come off of the board.
I am the current president of The Connecticut Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Society (CT APRNS). CT APRNS is the professional state wide organization for nurse practitioners for Connecticut. As an organization we network with other state and national organizations to work to support APRN legislation in the state. Our goal is to continue to advocate for health care in the state.
I also volunteer with Global Health Teams and before COVID, regularly went on medical missions to Haiti. I have traveled with the organization in 2017, 2018, and 2019. When traveling to Haiti our trip is approximately 10 days long. The clinic is set up in austere locations. There is limited running water and electricity. We take medications from the U.S. for ailments such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and other primary care conditions. Residents of all ages travel for hours to be seen, evaluated and treated at these clinics.
I believe that I am a qualified candidate to run for Southington Town Council. If elected, I intend to enact a leadership style focused on veracity, transparency, and inclusion. This is our community and I want to continue to make it “The City of Progress.” I am very excited to meet each of you and discuss how we can work together to make The Town of Southington the best community for our families and generations to come.
