Chris PalmieriCandidate, Town Council

Chris is a lifelong Southington resident and is very excited about the opportunity to run for re-election to the Town Council. Chris is currently a member of the Southington Democratic Town Committee and was elected as a member of the Southington Library Board of Directors in 1999, Southington’s Board of Water Commissioners in 2001, and the Southington Town Council in 2003. Chris is currently serving as the minority leader on the Town Council. He is also the vice chairman of the Public Building Committee for Kennedy and DePaolo Middle Schools. In addition he serves on the Sewer Infrastructure Committee, the Public Works Committee, the Bradley Memorial Hospital Advisory Committee, and the Ordinance Review Committee.

A graduate of Southington High School, Chris went on to the University of Rhode Island where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with a double major in marketing and management. While away at college in Rhode Island, Chris got his first experience in public service as he served as an intern in the Mayor’s office in Providence, Rhode Island. During his short time serving in this capacity, he received a citizen’s citation from the Mayor in recognition of his service to the city. Chris returned to school to pursue a teaching career. He earned a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from Sacred Heart University and a Sixth Year Professional Certificate in School Administration from Sacred Heart University.

Currently, Chris is the assistant principal at DePaolo Middle School. Previously he was an eighth grade science teacher at Kennedy Middle School in Plantsville where he was actively involved. After leaving Kennedy, Chris continued his commitment to the students by creating a town-wide middle school drama program including students from both Kennedy and DePaolo.

His strong commitment to the community is evident by his participation in volunteer organizations in town. Chris is actively involved with Southington’s annual Apple Harvest Festival serving as the co-chairman of the festival supervisory committee. He is a member of the Executive Board for Southington’s Town-wide Effort to Promote Success (S.T.E.P.S.). He is the Treasurer and an active member in the Southington Community Theater. Chris also volunteers for several community activities including numerous events with the Community Services Department and the Southington High School All Night Graduation Party. Chris is a parishioner at St. Aloysius Church where he serves as an usher.

Chris has also previously served on the Southington Public Library long range committee, the Senior Citizen tax relief committee, the Bread for Life review committee, and the Southington Enterprise Zone & Economic Development (S.E.E.D.) Committee.
