A Republican election ad that includes the town seal and the word “official” is drawing criticism from Democrats.
The ad, headlined “2015 Official Town of Southington Election Guide,” was included in this week’s Southington Observer and listed Republican accomplishments and candidates. Republicans hold majorities on the Town Council and Board of Education.
Ed Rosenblatt, Democratic town chairman, said Republicans are trying to mislead residents with the title and the use of the seal. The guide contains a sample ballot that includes the name of Republican but not Democratic candidates.
“It’s not just the seal. It’s the claim that this is the official Town of Southington voter guide,” he said. “The whole thing is a fraud.”
