Seeking applicants for the Democratic Assistant Registrar of Voters

The Southington Democratic Town Committee is seeking applicants to fill the position of Democratic Assistant Registrar of Voters. This is an hourly, part time position without benefits.

HOURS: Part Time, varied as needed (to be discussed at interview)

SELECTION PROCESS: Qualified candidates will be interviewed by a committee who will recommend one (1) person to the Democratic Registrar of Voters for appointment.

EXPECTED START DATE: January 4th, 2021


The ideal candidate MAY assist the Democratic Registrar of Voters in the discharge of the following

1. Register voters

a. Conduct voter registration sessions

b. Receive and process mail-in and agency voter registration applications

c. In addition to town clerks, provide admission forms to the permanently disabled

2. Maintain voter registry lists

a. Prepare and maintain a list of active and inactive voters

b. Prepare a list for each polling place

c. Remove from the list electors who move from the voting district, die, or are disenfranchised

d. Enroll party members and prepare and maintain party enrollment lists

3. Participate in Absentee Voting Administration

a. Remove absentee ballot voters from the official voter registry list prior to an election, primary, or referendum

b. Train people to count absentee ballots

c. Supervise absentee balloting at institutions or dwelling places with 20 or more voters

4. Conduct Elections

a. Train poll workers (i.e., moderators, checkers, ballot clerk, box-tender, and assistant registrars)

b. Supervise all poll works on the day of each election, primary, or referendum

c. Participate in recanvassing in the event of a voting discrepancy

d. Prepare list of presidential and overseas voters who are not on the registry list

5. Ensure the proper maintenance, transportation, storage, and preparation of voting machines

a. Train election officials on the machines’ operation

6. Customer Service

a. Welcome visitors to the Registrars office.

b. Answer phone calls and process requests for information

7. Other duties as assigned by the Democratic Registrar of Voters


The ideal candidate will possess the following qualities

1 Professional and courteous demeanor

2. Have a basic knowledge of the Election Process

3. Understanding of database management and IT systems

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must be a registered Democrat.
