Board of Education
Occupation: Southington Public School Teacher, Retired
Bob Brown taught in Southington Public Schools for 41 years, both at JFK Middle School and Southington High School. He previously served three terms on the Board of Education. Bob’s extensive education experience and unwavering commitment to ALL students and educators define his candidacy..
Bob has an established reputation as a fair problem solver, not a problem creator.
He always puts people above politics. As a recently retired teacher, he is familiar with current trends and issues in education. His ongoing connections with educators, families, former students, and state legislators bolster his insights into the evolving educational landscape. Recognizing the complexities that students and educators face today, Bob understands that social and emotional wellbeing is as vital to learning as academics. He believes safety should be a priority. Productive dialogue between parents, students, educators, and citizens is essential. Solving problems requires listening, effective communication, and a careful consideration of all options- always putting student and community needs over politics.
Our responsibility is to provide the highest quality and safest education to our students while balancing local economic considerations. This necessitates thoughtful examination and discussion of education spending, along with the pursuit of grants so that we may provide our students and teachers the support they need.
Bob’s optimism about our students’ futures fuels his commitment to providing secure schools and high quality education.
Volunteerism: Bob believes in community service. He is an active member, and former president of the Rotary Club of Southington. He served as the leader of a State Task Force focused on reducing the impact of poverty on students (child poverty has a ripple effect on
everyone, creating less productive adults and more social service needs). Bob is the former president of our teacher’s union, and he is the Chair of the Southington High School Wall of Honor which honors graduates who have accomplished great things in life.
Education: B.A. degree in Philosophy from Colby College; masters, sixth, and seventh year courses at CCSU, SCSU, and Sacred Heart University.
