The Southington Democratic Town Committee (SDTC) elected Water Commission member Robert Berkmoes as Chairman and former Chairwoman Elaine Bedard as Vice-Chairman at the March 3, 2016 organizational meeting.

SDTC members thanked former Chairman Ed Rosenblatt and former Vice-Chairman Rebecca Davis for their hard work during the past two years.

Many thanks to all who attended and supported the 2014 Chairman’s Dinner, Sep. 5, at Hawks Landing. We had a visit from Congressman John Larson who honored Bob Berkmoes, our Distinguished Democrat of the Year. We also heard from our candidates running for various local and state offices.

The Southington Democratic Town Committee opened their campaign headquarters at 48 North Main Street October 2. The entrance to HQ is at the rear of the building. The office will be open most evenings until election day.

In a recent editorial Senator Markley criticized Corky Mazurek for his characterization of Representative Robert Sampson. In Markley’s editorial he wrote, “He (Sampson) has never favored imposing term limits”. Perhaps before the Senator wrote that he should have checked Sampson’s record.

At their March 31 meeting, the Southington Democratic Town Committee elected a new slate of officers to lead the town’s democrats:

The new Executive Committee members are:

Chairman: Edward Rosenblatt
Vice-Chairman: Rebecca Davis
Treasurer: David Della Vecchia
Secretary: Zaya G. Oshana

The new executive committee pledged to unite the party and to educate Southington residents on the democratic party’s vision for the future of our town.

According to the Election Calendar this year, we need to elect officers any time after March 4th.

Any registered democrat can be nominated for the following positions within the Southington Democratic Town Committee: Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary, and Treasurer.

We are very fortunate to have such strong representation in the State Legislature.  In particular, the Southington Democrats will work closely with Joe Aresimowicz in his position as the majority leader, the second highest ranking member of the House of Representatives.

Additionally, Representative Dave Zoni is currently a member of the Southington Democratic Town Committee and former member of the Southington Town Council.  Dave has accomplished quite a lot already especially as a freshman legislator.
